My Story

Getting to know Colleen Shaw

Welcome to my personal journey. Here, I share a bit about who I am, what drives me, and what I aspire to achieve. I'm excited to connect with you through my work and story.

My Path to Making a Difference

My passion for helping others truly began with a personal experience. A previous therapist, whose support was invaluable, inspired me to pursue a career where I could offer the same kind of guidance and care. This experience ignited a desire to go back to school and dedicate myself to this rewarding field. I am committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of others.

My decision to pursue graduate studies was driven by a desire to deepen my knowledge, expand my professional competencies, and make a meaningful impact in my field. I recognized that advanced education would provide opportunities to develop specialized skills and gain a greater understanding of the theories, research, and practices that guide professional work. I am motivated by a commitment to personal and professional growth, as well as a passion for helping others. Graduate school has allowed me to challenge myself academically, refine my career goals, and prepare for leadership opportunities within my profession.

Skills That Connect and Heal

Among my strongest qualities are my ability to be a great listener and my skill in building rapport. These are not just traits, but tools I use to understand and connect with individuals on a deeper level. I believe that genuine listening and trust are the foundations of effective support, and I strive to foster these in every interaction. I want to highlight these abilities as they are central to my professional aspirations.

Throughout my academic and professional experiences, I have developed strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. I am skilled at collaborating with diverse groups, building meaningful relationships, and adapting to changing situations. My graduate studies have strengthened my ability to analyze complex issues, apply evidence-based practices, and engage in reflective decision-making. Additionally, I have developed strong organizational and time-management skills that help me balance multiple responsibilities while maintaining high standards of performance

A Future Dedicated to First Responders

One of my unique aspirations is to work with first responders after I complete my degree. These brave individuals face immense challenges, and I am deeply committed to providing them with the support they deserve. This is a goal that truly sets me apart and reflects my dedication to serving those who serve us all. My portfolio is a step towards achieving this meaningful career.

"One of the most valuable lessons I have learned during my training is the importance of building genuine therapeutic relationships and creating a space where clients feel safe enough to be themselves."
